    Dear all,

I ran a full scan of my pc with avira.
Restarted the PC, reached the desktop with only the mouse pointer shown.. No Start button, no taskbar, no icons... nothing more. few seconds later, avira windows appear: winlogon.exe is infected.... whatever the options I choose (delete, deny, ignore. ...), no normal logging on.

    Same with safe mode.

    Please advise.

    Hi Joe,

My apologies for the delay. Has your situation changed any? If not, can you burn a cd on the other computer available to you, and do you have a blank disc?

    Hello noahdfear

I had to format and do full reinstallation.
On another note, is there a way to access 'system restore' from a windows XP CD?

    Thanx

Sorry to hear that Joe. :(

As a matter of fact there is a way, but not from the XP cd. It can be done with an ERD Commander cd, which was what I had in mind to attemp first.
