You probably want to run HiJackThis, SuperAntiSpyWare, or MBAM or the like.

Some indications from a preliminary web search that this could be a trojan or a backdoor. More data is called for.

    Hi JoeT,

    • Download RSIT by random/random and save it to your desktop.
    • Double click RSIT.exe to start the tool.
    • At the disclaimer, please use the drop down box to select 3 months for the file/folder search, then click Continue.
    • When the scan completes it will open a log named log.txt maximized, and a log named info.txt minimized.
    • Please post the contents of log.txt here in your next reply.

Ok here is the RIET info plus some other info that I got. I contacted Gigabyte, I am running two new computers with a GA-EP35-DS3L MB in them.

I asked Gigabyte about The Gest M "˜|\ü and this is what they said.

GEST is related to the Dynamic Energy Saver utility, if you have it installed test with it removed first. If you have any registry software cleaner installed you can try it and see if it'll removed any Gest related filename

Maybe someone with the newer Gigabyte MB would look to see if they have a GEST file/program etc?

That startup entry doesn't appear to have valid information in it and I'd say you're safe to remove it with HijackThis. It might not have been properly written to the registry when the application was installed, and re-installing might write it correctly.

Thanks, I will try to remove or disable to see what happens.

Wondering since I posted a log if I can ask another question?

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.att.net/ie4/search/index.html
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://yahoo.sbc.com/dsl
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = dynhost.inetcam.com;register.inetcam.com;127.0.0.1

The first R0 is ok but what is the last three in this listing and can they be removed. The last R1 is something about an over ride?

    Thanks
    Joe

The ProxyOverride entry means that Internet Explorer would bypass any Proxy settings when the listed addresses/domains are accessed. 127.0.0.1 address is your own computer.

The R1 and R0 entries exist for both the Local Machine (HKLM) and the Current User (HKCU). The current user settings will override the local machine settings.

They all look fine to me. :)
