Okay. Deep breath. I downloaded a file from the internet in a moment of stupidity and now find myself with a nasty bug. The internet started not working, so I ran a full scan through Symantac and found Perflib_Perfdata_24c located at c:\windows\temp and also tmp1.tmp at c:\Documents and Settings\My Name\Local Settings\Temp. Symantac claimed it was removing these files, but did not succeed after reboot. I tried to manually remove the files but got an error message "disc full/not authorized ". In the meantime, the tmp file was spawining other files such as tmp6.tmp, some of which could be deleted and others not. I went to safe mode and ran symantac again which didn't find the viruses, but I went in and manually removed them, which appeared to work until I went back to normal mode. I tried to do a system restore, but it just doesn't respond. I disabled system restore and went back to safe mode and deleted the files, deleted trash, but once again, no luck. I also have been using a program called Unlocker to get rid of the files in regular mode. It deletes some, which come back after reboot, and also claims its going to get rid of some after reboot and does not. This all occurred yesterday. Today I just tried to open my c: drive through My Computer and was told "Widnows cannot find RECYCLER\S-2-5-27-1000020076-1000024302-100019951-536.com' Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search." I think that's everything so far. Here are the logs (I'm on a different computer btw since the internet does not work on mine.)

Update: I used Autoruns in safe mode and found logonui.exe and deleted it in Autorun, but I couldn't find it on my computer to delete it. Now when I reboot, Windows asks me for a password. In all the years I've had the computer I've never entered a password. Is this the virus or something I could have caused? Is it possible I entered a password long ago and have never been prompted to use it until now for some reason? I've tried my usual list of passwords and none have worked.

    No password

Just a thought, did you try no password? Just type the enter key in the password field. If you never entered a password then it should be nothing.

Thanks! Your suggestion worked. Unfortunately, my computer still seems to be in the same state it was in, if not worse. When I got into Windows my firewall and symantac were both turned off (not by me) though I think they're back on now. This thing is evil...

    Processes running

I used a database to look up some of the more questionable processes in my task manager. I know some of these might be benign parts of my computer, but they all were listed as having possible malicious doppelgangers. Hope this helps.

    VPC32.EXE
    Ctfmon.exe
    jusched.exe
    QTTask.exe
    Vptray.exe
    ccApp.exe
    dlhost.exe
S-7-7-95-100008823-1000028809-100000382-6931.com (didn't find this one in the database. I just assumed.)
    rundll32.exe
    alg.exe
svchost.exe (this one appears multiple times)
    ehSched.exe
    Services.exe

Also, on my Toshiba external drive, which was unfortunately hooked up at the time of infection, I found Wn32\Alureon!inf. in a seperate scan.

Thanks in advance for any help I can receive!

    Hi and welcome

Save these instructions to wordpad/notepad or print them out, while some of the fix will have all windows closed and will help you complete all the necessary steps.

Since this computer has no internet access you'll have to Download the tools needed to a flash drive or other removable media, and transfer them to the infected computer.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe to start the tool.
Select option #3 - Delete Trusted zone by typing 3 and press Enter
Answer Yes to the question "Restore Trusted Zone ?" by typing Yes and press Enter

    Notes
    1. If you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.
    2. As many of the variants of Smitfraud have begun invading the Hosts file, this tool will reset your Hosts file as a necessary precaution. You will also have to reset any specific modifications you may require such as Hosts MVPS.

    NEXT**
Once again Open the SmitfraudFix folder on your desktop.

Select option #5 - "Search and Clean DNS Hijack" by typing 5 and pressing "Enter" to delete the rogue settings.

Follow the prompts and reboot if asked to do so.

    NEXT**
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop

    Additional Link

    * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
    * Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    * Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
    * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    * When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
    * You can also access the log by doing the following:

o Click on the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware icon to launch the program.
o Click on the Logs tab.
o Click on the log at the bottom of those listed to highlight it.
