    I downloaded teh Comanglia Virus somehow and don't know how to remove it.
    Does someone have the fix?

    1. Using XP
    2. Using Firefox most of the time although it affects Explorer just the same
    3. Tried the "remove explore.exe" fix BUT my computer doesn't have any file by that name.
    4. In Task Manager, I don't have a "explore.exe" ONLY an "iexplore.exe" which doesn't help
    5. I did a search for "explore.exe" and only found this file: "IEXPLORE.EXE-2D97EBE6.pf
    6. Erased WinRAR files and removed the program for add/remove programs.

    Please help!

    Welcome to WindowsBBS soma5280 :)

    Please visit the following webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix

    How to use ComboFix

    Download ComboFix by sUBs from here, saving the file to your desktop.

    Disable realtime protection applications as they sometimes interfere with the tool. Check this link for your applicable programs.

    • Close all open programs and windows
    • Double click ComboFix.exe and follow the prompts.
    • It may reboot your computer and resume running when you logon. Wait for it to complete. When finished, it will open a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.
    Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

    **NOTE - I recommend you allow the Recovery Console to be downloaded and installed if or when prompted.

    Once again, disable any realtime protection applications. Highlight and copy the contents of the code box below and paste it into a blank notepad, then save it to your desktop as;

    Filename: CFScript.txt
    Save As Type: All Files (*.*)

    Code:

    Close all other windows and programs. Now drag the CFScript.txt onto ComboFix.exe and drop it, using the left mouse button. Combofix should run and may reboot the computer when it's done. A log will open when it's complete. Post the contents of that log.

    Please do not click on the ComboFix window while it is running a scan. This can cause it to stall.

    Please note that I have instructed CFScript to collect some files. This means that when ComboFix finishes, you will be prompted to allow ComboFix to upload a zip file that was created. The zip contains the aforementioned files. Please copy the path shown in the prompt and paste it into the box, then click Send. This will assist the author in adding the files for removal in future updates. Thanks!

    No mention of a zip file

    Sir,
    I was never prompted to unzip a file as you described below.
    Don't know if I did something wrong on my end. I probably did and I apologize. Let me know what to do to fix this for you.
    Thank You,
    Jeremy

    Please note that I have instructed CFScript to collect some files. This means that when ComboFix finishes, you will be prompted to allow ComboFix to upload a zip file that was created. The zip contains the aforementioned files. Please copy the path shown in the prompt and paste it into the box, then click Send. This will assist the author in adding the files for removal in future updates. Thanks!

    Please post the contents of the file C:\Qoobox\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt

    Highlight and copy the contents of the code box below.
    Code:
    @echo off
    cd %systemroot%\system32
    @Swreg null query  "HKU\S-1-5-21-1578283180-1263861936-2387754867-1005\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Approved" /s /f >peek.txt
    start notepad peek.txt
    exit
    cls

    Click Start>Run and type cmd then hit enter to open a command window. Right click in the command window and select paste. The command window will close on it's own and peek.txt will open. Post it's contents here.

    Please upload the following file to this submission channel.

    C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\[4]-Submit_2009-01-12@13.19.zip

    Highlight and copy the contents of the code box below.
    Code:
    @echo off
    cd %systemroot%\system32
    @Swreg null delete  "HKU\s-1-5-21-1578283180-1263861936-2387754867-1005\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\shell extensions\approved\{D64C5CE7-5DB4-9D01-3B38-2AA35126F2D8}*" /n *
    exit
    cls

    Click Start>Run and type cmd then hit enter to open a command window. Right click in the command window and select paste. The command window will close on it's own.

    Now, lets get an online scan. Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner

    Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.
    • Click Run at the Security prompt.
    • The program will then begin downloading and installing and will also update the database.
    • Please be patient as this can take several minutes.
    • Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
    • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
    • Click View scan report at the bottom.
    • Click the Save Report As... button.
    • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply.
    **Note**

    To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
    • Close any open programs.
    • Turn off the real-time scanner of all antivirus or antispyware programs while performing the online scan.

    Post the Kaspersky log here.

    Looks good. If you're satisfied things are working normally again, lets cleanup now.

    Open your resident antivirus (Norton) and remove all quarantined items.
    I noticed that you also installed Avira. You should not have more than 1 active antivirus program and I recommend you remove one of them.

    Click Start>Run and type ComboFix /u then hit Enter to uninstall ComboFix and remove the files it has quarantined. This action will also reset the System Restore points, removing any infected files there as well.
    Verify the C:\Qoobox and C:\ComboFix folders were removed, as well as the C:\ComboFix.txt file.

    Delete RSIT.exe and the C:\rsit folder.
    You can delete any other logs that were created/saved too.
    Empty the recycle bin when done.

    That should finish things up. Let me know how the computer is behaving now.

    No popups but internet browser runs extremely slow

    The pop ups have ceased but now each browser (firefox/explorer) run extremely slow. Meaning, it takes a long time for the pages to load up. for instance, this thread takes about 30 seconds to load before i can scroll to the bottom to see your responses. sometimes the pages hang up (not responding message at the top of the browser). This didn't happen until the virus.
    what do you suggest?

    Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune and save it to your Desktop.

    Close all open browser windows.
    • Double click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    • Check the boxes to the left of:

      • Windows Temp
      • Current User Temp
      • All Users Temp
      • Temporary Internet Files (TIFs)
      • Prefetch
      • Java Cache
      • Recycle bin

    • The rest are optional - if you want it to remove everything check "Select All ".
    • Finally, click Empty Selected.
    • When you get the "Done Cleaning" message, select the Firefox tab and clear out at least the TIFs and Cookies.
    • Click OK then exit.
    Reboot

    Let me know if there's any improvement.
