    I've exhausted every search combination I could think of for Google/Yahoo searches for this, so if anybody out there knows what game this is, I'll be extremely appreciative for the help!

    The game was a point and click type game, though the keyboard could be used too. The arrow keys would change the direction you were facing, in a four-direction field. The game itself was first-person perspective.

    The game took place on a space station, where a psychotic homicidal robot AI system had taken over. I believe the AI system's name was "HAL ", but I'm not sure. Anyway, the AI system attempted to make you believe it liked you and wanted to help you, though it would actually be trying to get you to do the wrong things so you would be killed.

    The game also had items you could collect and use/give to other NPCs, to stop them from eating/killing you, or to let you pass. I seem to recall one of the NPCs being a Balrog, though I'm not confident on this part.

    The text itself was presented in one block, with one to three choices for replies being in another text block. Clicking or pressing the number key responding to the choice made it happen. One of the choices I remember is at the end of the game, where you can choose to destroy HAL by turning him off.

    Anyway, I think the game was a Windows 95 game, running in DOS. But that's all I can remember about the game, other than that it was pretty fun. Again, any help finding out the title of the game would be highly appreciated.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

    The mention of Hal brings to mind the movie '2001 - A Space Odyssey'.

    Maybe there was a PC game based on that?

    My first thought too Pete, but the only bad (misunderstood is probably a better word) guy in that was the HAL-9000, if there is a link to Clarke or Kubrick's work it'd have to be very tentative.

    Unless the original poster's description is way off it's not Duke Nukem mate.

    I get the impression it's an adventure type game but rather than N S E W etc you use the arrow keys and when interacting with other characters you choose a response.

    EDIT: BTW Welcome to WindowsBBS :D

    I also remembered that "HAL" looked rather like an intercom, if that helps anyone out ^^;

    @Donal;

    It wasn't Duke Nukem, though that was a fun little series too. :3

    @wildfire;

    Exactly. Though it did have a forward/backward button you could click, as well as a turn left/turn right button. In a way, it was very similar to that old Windows Maze screensaver. Except movement was just done by blocks, rather than fluid movement.

    @everyone;

    Thanks for the welcome to the forums :3

    I was thinking it might be related to the Space Odyssey too, at first, though the 'monsters' in the game makes me wonder. I can't remember if it had a combat system or not; if it did, it was a really simple turn based one that was just 'do damage or run away'.

    Hi DarkFool,

    No help for this particular game but if you enjoy that kind of gameplay you may wish to look at the interactive fiction archive for games (both text and graphics) of a similar ilk. You never know the game you're thinking of may be in there.

    Read some of the links in the new to IF section to get you started.

    Amazingly enough, I found the game from showing a friend this forum post!

    If anyone is/was interested, the game turned out to be a game called "VENTURE ", by Rich Foley, and was on a game CD called "Power Game Pack" made be Laser Magic.

    Anyway, thanks for all the help, guys :D I appreciated it. And thank you for the link, wildfire. I'll be sure to give that site a looksee. :D
