    Good Evening..

My Compaq Presario A 900 Laptop driving Vista does not permit me to record in line music from any source. The window that is supposed to offer me recording options offers only Microphone. There is no 'inline' icon.

I would like to record music from Windows Media Player and save it in MP3 format, using the Audacity recorder, as I have done on my W2K desktop for years. This includes music from my CD collection in the WAV format, as well as midis that I download.

    Am I missing something important?

    Many thanks..

    Muriel!

I have my own method (program) for ripping from CDs.

The way I see you do ripping is to turn the data file into audio, then convert the audio into an MP3 file. I would not use a player, then try to record the sound, I would just convert the "data" (rip straight from the CD). Windows Media Player has a Ripper, but as I suppose you have found, it converts to a .wma file. I suggest you use an MP3 Ripper if you want to convert to MP3.

It also 'does' MP3. There's a drop-down menu under Rip, 1st option is Format where you can make your selection.

    Good Morning, Mattman....

Many thanks for this reply.. You do seem to know your way around this issue and as soon as I have had my first cup of coffee, I shall check it out! It will be wonderful to get this feature up and running again!

I am going to test out Arie's information after avoiding WMP for a very long time :)
