In both IE and Firefox I have no background color. All material and photos in webpages I put together are fine but the background color specified is not there. If I go to a news page I have the same problem. Incoming email ditto. I am running HP Media Center...

On my laptop next to the PC, full color on all pages.

    Hi dmarq,

    In Firefox, try this:

From menu bar>tools>options>content tab>colors button>make sure the option of " allow web pages to choose their own colors instead of my mine" is checked.

In IE these options may be found and set via the directions below:
Change the colors and fonts used for web pages

You want to check theses settings but do the opposite of below, because you don't want to over ride web page choices!!!!

To specify website fonts and colors
    Click to open Internet Explorer.

Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.

Click the General tab, and then do one or both of the following:

To change the font, click Fonts. Specify the fonts you want to use, and then click OK.

To change colors, click Colors, and then clear the Use Windows colors check box. Click each color box, click the color you want to switch to, and then click OK. When you're done choosing colors, click OK.

    Click OK.

To override website font and color settings
    Click to open Internet Explorer.

Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.

Click the General tab, and then click Accessibility.

Select the Ignore colors specified on webpages, Ignore font styles specified on webpages, and Ignore font sizes specified on webpages check boxes, click OK, and then click OK again.

Goddez1 - Thank you for ideas. Regrettably no luck. Firefox was easy to follow and is set for "allow web pages ".
In IE I worked through your instructions, and I now have lovely baby blue, but it won't return to website colors when I reverse it. Basic white prevails.
I suspect the problem is inherent to Windows since both Firefox and IE went colorless at the same time. Any thoughts on what I might have done to Windows for it to punish me?

    Hi dmarq,

    http://en.kioskea.net/faq/60-white-background-s-problem-in-web-pages

If using windows 7, check for similar settings in "ease of access "

Or right click desktop>personalize>make sure you are not using a high contrast theme. (in this case a high contrast white theme will result in symptoms you describe).

    AND...............

I may have misunderstood what it is your doing and asking for. Based on this:

I thought you had lost webpage color on pages being surfed or viewed by browsers and background color is now white. On reread, of you original thread, I noticed the bolded text above. Now I'm wondering if you are talking about a website that you may have made. Please clarify or clear this up for me, if you don't mind.

Also is it your color choice you want or the webpage designers styles and choices.

Hmmm - not using Windows 7 so none of commands you mention are available at my start menu. I am on HP xp media center.

Your first assumption was correct. Problem is not limited to webpages I made but all webpages for news, finance, etc.

    goddez1 -

Sorry if confusion over which version - it is basically XP, never really got into the Media Center stuff.

The picture shown on the sample Kioskea is a dead ringer for my problem. Lots of white!

Thanks for trying - open to any and all suggestions except scrap my PC.

Try #135 on the right side:
    restore accessibility to default

You have no "accessibility options" icon in control panel?

You have no display settings for theme? Make sure it is not set to any high contrast theme.

    Sorry....
The directions I gave were not literal nor universal but general. I use windows 7 and have not opened an xp in quite some time. The names you see may vary slightly but not enough that you shouldn't be able to figure it out.

    How about this:
    http://www.abilitynet.org.uk/edu_sensorysoftware

    http://solutions.neilsquire.ca/wao.htm
It's the display tab that has the high contrast option we're lookin' to check for and uncheck if your using such.

Ann - thank you again. This is the 3rd time I have typed this - went to Solved tab and all disappeared.

The solution - Windows XP Control Panel does include "accessibility options ". Click on the Display tab and uncheck "Use High Contrast" - Color will return to all websites.

And Ann, I did enjoy visiting Houston back in the 1980 "s for business, very nice city! Than you again.
