:mad:hi I have recently created a big problem for myself on my laptop.
I read somewhere that it helps with wireless security if you change the ssid name that your ISP gave you to something different,so I did exactly that.

However my laptop didn't seem to be able to connect to it even though I had entered the new ssid name in both the laptop and the router.

So seeing as it wouldn't connect I decided to change it back to the original name and reconnected.

But for some reason it wouldn't work with the original name either even though it had worked fine with no problems previously.....
I figured theres no problem with the router because I have another laptop which works perfectly and can connect wirelessly with no problems.

I have tried all the simple fixs like turning the router on for 5 min and reconnecting ,and going into the router with a ethernet cable.

I did a registry clean ,and a sfc/scannow at the cmd line which did find some corrupted files but I don't think am able to clean them without internet connectivity.

Is there anything I can do please help........

I am running windows vista on the laptop which won't connect

just a thought. Since you've tried doing a reset of the router by unplugging, maybe try resetting the factory default settings on your router. Theres a small hole, should be on the back of the router itself. A safety pin should fit in the hole and holod for a few seconds. Not sure if that will help but its a simple step that is easy to do.

Resetting to factory defaults removes wifi encryption and sets the defauly product name SSID.

Login to the router using a wired connection. Cjange wifi security and change the SSID, and while you're at it, change the channel to 1 or 11 for best efficiency. Save settings and close browser.

Disconnect cable. Reboot comp. Connect to access point newly.

CHange the SSID to something totally different in the router and try again.
