I don't use Outlook, but my brother in law wants to transfer his contacts from one computer to another. No problem. In my house I exported and saved the contacts from an OUtlook 2003 into a .pst file. Inported into a machine that has 2010 and all is there. However, I noticed when googling around, some folks recommend exporting into the comma separated value file (.csv) Anybody got an opinion on that or maybe what is the difference?

    Thanks

I think because .CSV is supported by more than Just MS stuff.

I've dealt with Outlook for 10 years now, and I mainly save my contacts in the pst format (I back up the pst file too), but I also like to export them in the CSV format in case I need a separate backup. The CSV file is also handy for importing contacts into other POP mail clients.

You can never have too many backups of important data.

So it appears, that a .pst file means 'personal folders ". Last night I was importing contacts into Outlook 2010, and they did'nt show up! But it created a personal folders file, and i had to copy all the contacts in there to the contacts data area of 2010. Finally they showed up

Everything you do in Outlook is stored in a PST file... As you've seen, you can export all or part of the information that is stored in the file.
