I am currently using Netscape Messenger 7.1 as my primary e-mail client. I am trying to figure out if there is anyway that I can import my Local Mail from my Netscape Messenter 7.1 mail profile into Microsoft Outlook 2002, 2003 or Microsoft Outlook Express.

I found an article out on the net that kind of gives me an indication that this can't really be done easily. What the article says is to first set up a mail profile in Netscape 4.x and then copy the mail folders or messages into the Netscape 4.x mail folder, minus the.msf files. Then to open the folders and messages to create the new .snm files. The next step is to import these messages into Outlook Express, then into Outlook.

Does anyone know a more direct route of doing this where I can import directly from my Netscape 7.1 mail profile right into Outlook?

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Lawrin Walker

    Welcome to the Forum, lawrin1958!

    Lawrin,

I know of no other way than to do as this Netscape Solution recommends:
Importing Netscape 7 Mail Into Outlook Express, or Outlook

You would have a much more secure Mail Client in Mozilla 1.7.12, or if you switch to Firefox and Thunderbird. Netscape 7.1 is obsolete, and has security vulnerabilities, in addition to a serious resource leak, and download bug, just to list a few of its problems...

    Ramona,

I kind of had a feeling that this was not possible. I also found the link you refer to below. I was asking this question for one of my co-workers who is leaving our organization and wanted to know how to copy her Netscape mail to a CD. She is going to another organization but will still be supporting the same projects and she wanted to take the messages pertaining to that project with her. I told her if the new organization does not use Netscape for e-mail, the messages probably would not be compatible, or be able to be imported into a Microsoft mail program.

I have the link you referenced, if it becomes a big issue, I will find out how many messages she is talking about and try the procedure so she can take the messages with her.

    Thanks again and Happy Holidays

    Lawrin,

Your co-worker can save the messages as .txt files, and can read them without a problem, if saved to CD. However, if there are a lot of messages, that might prove to be time consuming.

    Ramona,

I probably went above and beyond helping my co-worker with this. But using the article from the link you sent me, I was able to convert her Netscape 7.1 mail into three different formats that she can use, depending on what e-mail application she has at her new location. I had the old version of Netscape 4.x, so I followed the instructions for that part of the article, and got the messages formatted so that she can import them into Outlook Express. I copied the Netscape messages with .snm file extensions to a CD. After I did that, I then imported them into Outlook, and then exported them to Microsoft Excel files and copied them to a CD so that she can import them into Outlook. Then I copied the Netscape 7.1 version of the messages to a CD in case her new location happens to be using Netscape.

So like I said, I probably spent more time on it then I should have, but the user is a really nice girl and she really needed these messages when she moved.

Thanks again for all your help.

    Lawrin

I copied the Netscape messages with .snm file extensions to a CD.

    Did you really do that?

Yes I did. First I copied the users local mail files she wanted to save from her machine to my machine. Then I installed Netscape 4.x, and set up the profile. Then I copied the Netscape 7.1 message folders, w/o the .msf files, into the Mail folder of the Netscape 4.x. Then I opened Netscape 4.x to read the message folders and create the .snm files. Then I copied them to a CD for the user, so that she could import them into Outlook Express, which would then allow her to import them into Outlook.
