I have been trying to import a CSV file into Excel 2007 without it appearing correctly in Excel 2007?. The information is not separated into the columns properly.
My operating system is MS XP and by going to control panel>regional options>customize> numbers tab my list separator is a comma.
But I am getting information spread over more than one column in some
instances and with semicolons displayed amongst the data?.
On the sending software one can choose the correct separator in fact the default is a comma which of course I chose

Can one insert images or attach files on this forum, as I have not noticed any rules in this regard?.
As this could aid anyone trying to understand my problem better?.

    Thanks Christer,

I now know I cannot attach or insert an image into messages on this forum unless I pay a subscription.

I am afraid the link was of no help as I could not understand it?.

I need very simple instructions on how to resolve the problem, remember I am a beginner with PC's.

The delineator in the CSV might not be just a comma, it could be quotes and commas, semi-colons, etc.

Open the CSV in Notepad and see the actual delineators. You can also edit it Notepad and correct any missing delineators or correct the column headings. You can also use Search+replace to change delineators.\

It's also possible that the CSV line breaks are incorrect, i.e. multiple rows on a single line. Each row MUST be on its own line in a CSV.

    Thanks Everyone for your help,

A friend sent me a little movie with the 8 steps how to do it.

    1. first open an excel worksheet
    2. select DATA from the tool bar at top
    3. select the file you need to import from the file list box after selecting text
    4. text import wizard appears with step one of three where one selects delimited
    5. after clicking next the wizard goes to step 2/3 I have found that selecting semicolon works best
    6. after clicking next again step 3/3 of the text import wizard appears and it has
general selected I then click finish to exit the wizard
    7. then another small dialog box appears with import data on it and current worksheet selected
    8. also cell A1 has a shimmering motion in it, I now click ok

Now after doing all of the above all data is nice and neat and is in separate columns making it nice and easy to read in the excel spreadsheet.

This is all I wanted someone to do to help me in nice easy to follow steps
    as above.

Hopefully someone else will be helped by my nice and easy steps to follow if they have a similar problem.

    Robert
