    Hi,
I recently had to rebuild my Windows XP PC.
It has two hard drives. I reblasted the drive containing the OS, but left the other one untouched (since I've backed up some data onto it).

Anyway - rebuild PC up and running, but I cannot access the 2nd drive. Disk Manager shows it as a "Dynamic" drive with status of "Foreign ". Apparently in Win 2k there is an option to "Import Foreign Drive ", but I cant seem to work out how to do that in Windows XP (Home).

    Any ideas? Please HELP!

    Thanks,
    Sat

I don't know if Home and Prof. are the same here, but it works the same way as Windows 2000....

Start Computer management, select Storage > Disk Management, right click on the disk you have listed as Foreign, and select Import Foreign Disks

I think I've read somewhere that Import Foreign Drive is only available in XP Pro upwards.

I dont get the "Import" option in XP...all I get is "Convert to Basic Drive" (which would wipe the disk)

    Thanks,
    Sat

Are you saying that XP is misreporting the drive as "dynamic "?

You don't get the import option because, as you say, XP Home doesn't support dynamic disks.

No I dont think XP is misreporting.

I have Windows XP Home - which indeed does not have the "Import Foreign Drive" facility.

Does anyone know how I can import the blasted drive into XP Home - or do I have to remove my XP Home drive, install a new dummy hard drive, install XP Pro on it, import the dynamic drive, convert it to FAT32 or something so that when I put my XP Home drive back in I can access my "dynamic" hard drive.
