The installation of Redhat 8 was impressively simple, so now I can dual boot on one of the Houses PCs.

    But:

Setting up Mozilla in a identical fashion to send mail by SMTP through www.fastmail.fm or www.totalise.co.uk produces eaxactly the same error message with both IMAP servers. Port setting and authenication settings are identical to the windows installation.

Mozilla complains server is refusing permission to send, but does send. Redhat's default email client, Evolution, displays exactly the same problem - and does send.
Evolution seems to be telling me that pasword authentication is not availlable - when I know it is, and the mail is being sent!

Evolution sends without complaint using the "Sendmail" option. (What happens in "Sendmail" I haven't yet worked out.

Any Gurus out there with an answer?

    Hi Labarum,

Your issues are indeed a challenge! ;)

You can send with both of the IMAP accounts, despite the error? Can you give me the exact error...

This seems to be more a server issue than Netscape, and usually occurs if the Mail Setting configurations within Netscape are incorrect.

Following is information I have found so far:

    Netscape 7 Release Notes

Linux: You may encounter problems if you install Netscape in a root user environment then run as another user. Problems include saving to Sent folder, Drafts, Templates or general authentication problems.

Why do I get errors trying to send email from Outlook Express/Eudora/Mozilla/etc?

Here are three main possible reasons for this, each discussed in detail below:
    1. Our SMTP server requires authentication and you haven't set it up in your email client
    2. Eudora has problems with automatic SSL detection
    3. Your ISP blocks the SMTP port

Also, Mozilla has a problem that causes SSL to not work on port 465. If using Mozilla with SSL, please read this information.

I'm Linux illiterate, and this information may or may not be helpful.

    Ramona, Thanks for your esponse.

Jeremy Howard Moderator of the fastmail list at www.emailaddresses.com has the answer

    Quote:

On Mozilla, click Edit->Accounts->Copies and Folders, and choose to put sent items in an 'Other' folder, and select your Sent Items from the list.

The error is because it can't upload to the Sent Items folder.

    End quote

Mozilla is quite poor at times with IMAP folders. If I create a new folder at the webpage interface it can be very difficult to convince Mozilla it exists.

Subscription to IMAP folders does seem to need a look at.

    Thanks again

Also had the same problem with N7 WEBmail account. I move a copy to my N7 POP account "Sent" mail folder. Works fine.

Thanks Labarum, and DennisL for posting your solutions! The feedback may be helpful to others users as well, and is most certainly appreciated by me. ;)
