Every day is a new adventure LOL

I have MSPaint, and a couple other viewers/image manipulation programs.

Nothing has been added or taken off my puter, however just today:

if I click an image in mail or my folders, I get
"cannot find file _____________. Make sure path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available ".

However my MSPaint then pops up behind this warning with the image.
    BUT
How can I set default viewer, or do away with the "cannot find......available" box????

golferguy--I understand that clicking on any image file eventually opens it in MSPaint although you get that annoying message. Correct?
(Opening in MSPaint is default in Win98 for .bmp, IE is usually default for .jpg, .gif, etc.) If this is happening for all image files, then you must have set MSPaint as the default viewer.
I guess you know that the way to set up another graphics editor as default for opening image files is as follows.
Hold down Shift and simultaneously right click a .bmp file. (I will use .bmp as an example. The same procedure applies to other image files.) Click "Open With... ", scroll to the name of the preferred graphics editor, highlight, check the box ( "Always use this program..." at the bottom of the window, click OK. Now click on a .bmp file. Does it open in the newly assigned graphics editor? Maybe the problem is solved?
But if you still get the message, it might help to know the name of the file you left blank.
And another diagnostic step--what happens when you just open MSPaint rather than clicking on an image file?

P.S. Something else you could look at, before you follow the above suggestion, is to look at the present command for opening a .bmp file. (Again using .bmp as an example.)
Click Start|Settings|Folder Options|File Types tab|scroll to Bitmap image, highlight, click Edit, highlight Open, click Edit. In the box "Application used to perform action" you should see something like "C:\PROGRA~1\ACCESS~1\MSPAINT.EXE" "%1 "
Does that box on your PC look different, especially at the end?
