I'm having problems with my sound device. (At least, I think so!)

I'm going to be pretty honest and say, I'm pretty much the most computer illiterate person in the world.

My sound suddenly doesn't work on my computer. I thought it was my speakers, so I switched them like 1,000 times, and I even tried headphones and no luck. Everytime I try to play something in Windows Media Player I get this message "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly. "

Let me tell you, it is not in use by another program. It hasn't been working for like, a week or so, and it's really getting on my nerves. So if anyone might know how to fix this at all help would really be appreciated. Thanks! <3

Do you have the cds that came with sound card? If you have, log in as administator, pop in the cd & let it reinstall the driver again.

I don't. I mean, I don't *think* I do. See, I never remember installing a sound card, I just used the one that came on the computer, I think. I'm not even sure.

Right click on My Computer and then left click on Properties/Hardware/Device Manager. Do you see a yellow ? or ! beside your sound card? You may have to click the + to expand the group. If you do, you need to reinstall the drivers for the sound card. You may be able to right click on it and delete it then reboot the PC and it will find it and reinstall it for you.
