I've had DSL for a month now. I've avoided buying Zone Alarm Pro. I use AVG, Pop up stoper and Add aware.

I've noticed after a while of inactivity, my computer screen comes back on, the HD Light starts blinking. I don't know what's going on.

IF I GETT ZONE ALARM PRO, SHOULD I DELETE THESE PROGRAMS FIRST? Zone Alarm Pro is supoised to stop pop ups, and spyware, I don't relly want two programs that do the same, do I need two of each?

Plus "protection against worms, Trojans, spyware, and 46 types of malicious email attachments." Do I need AVG also? How will the two programs work together?
    Thank you, Chris.

I don't think you need to uninstall any of these programs. I happily use ZoneAlarm(the free one) AVG and ad-aware. I use netscape or mozilla, so no need for a pop-up stopper(one built right into them)

    That's my 2-cents anyway.

I agree that keeping them all should be fine.

But for sure keep your AV program since that isn't what ZA does best. And the two play well together.

There are a number of free firewalls which are just as effective as ZA (Kerio, Outpost and Sygate to name but a few). Outpost can act as a popup blocker and there are also numerous free blockers available. IMO, there's no good reason to pay for ZAP!

AVG Anti-Virus and Kerio Firewall live in the same house together very nicely.

And both do just as well ( maybe even better ) as NIS with MUCH LESS system load.

eeeeeyyyyyuuuppppp !!!. :) I guess you could say that :) But cost is not the only issue.

But when I find that two free programs do just as well as a $70 program that USED to be good and do it in FAR LESS disk space I see no reason not to change.

Just had to break down and try.

I am not against trying different things. Just at times a litte reluctant.
