Hi - every time I start my computer, it performs an illegal operation. In the top left corner of the message that comes up is the Windows icon and Dw. Any idea of how I can detect what the problem is and correct it? I hope so.

Without knowledge of what systen you are operating or full details of the error message here isd a list of errors I have extracted from the Microsoft Knowledge base using search word "illegal operation" and then searching within those results with the search word "startup ":
    http://search.microsoft.com/Default.asp?

If you can not locate your problem within these come back with further information on your Windows system and more details on what is causing the illegal operation message.

    HumBug,
I couldn't get that link to work from here so I had to cut it off in order to fit the window.

    dw.exe is the problem program

    I am Running windows 98.
Did a little research on the site you provided me with and now I know that the illegal operation is a page fault. The program that doesn't launch is Dw.exe. What does this program do? Any way to fix this program?

    DW.exe Error

    Hi,
Do you have, by any chance, Kazaa Media Desktop?
if i'm right and you do, get rid of it.

if you can't get rid of it, here's what you should do:

    - go to Start--->run and type "msconfig ".
    - it will open up a window titled "System Configuration Utility ".
    - on the "General" tab, select "Selective Startup" radio button.
    - go to "startup" tab.
    - you have a list of all the programs windows load on startup.
    - check out the box near "DW.exe "
    - click OK ---> computer asks to reboot ---> OK

    DONE!

    hope it will be helpful!
