    Hi Gang

    Hope you can help.
My current copy of office is apparently illegal (it came with with the PC)

I have purchased a legal copy of office pro..

How do I keep my data?
Can I just install on top?

    Thanks in advance

    B;)

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

Whether or not you uninstall/reinstall Office your data will remain untouched. However, as always, a current backup of all your important data is essential for your peace of mind.

Read this first - it may save you some work :) .....

How to change the product key for Office XP, for Office 2003, and for the 2007 Office system

If that fails note that you can restore the original registration details by merging the registry keys exported as per the articee back into the registry.

I would not install 'over the top' - I suggest you uninstall your current version of Office, reboot and make a fresh install from your legal copy.

Don't forget to update the installation through Windows Update.

It'll probably be the same method.

    32-bit versions
    2007 Office system
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration

Guessing the version will say 13.0 for Office 2010.

    Maybe simpler than that .....

    Control Panel > Programs & Feature > Office 10 > Change > Enter a Product Key.
