I'm all IKEAed out. What started the day as a load of flat-packed bits are now assembled, but I feel shattered. Too much turning furniture upside down to get at allusive screws; too much squeezing stubborn boards to get dowels to aligned. It makes me wonder whether it is all just a scandinavian conspiracy to use up our weekends and make us too knackered to work in the week. I blame the government.

Yeah, but turning those last to cams is sure rewarding isn't it! It seems such the accomplishment going from a pile of 10 different ***** sizes and cams and the separate pieces into a finished product. Almost makes one an engineer.

On another note, I was told that one of the reasons for the Ikea style assembly is because in Scandanavia people move often and this type of furniture makes it easier to move and/or store in small places.

Yeah, right ... ... true nomads we are!

The simple truth is density. IKEA does not care how we move and/or store it but for the company, reduced storage volumes and more efficient transportation equals higher profit and/or a lower price. The idea is good but as you have noticed, it can drive you nuts and believe me when I say that you do NOT want to disassemble and reassemble.

I must add that to my notes on the scandinavian conspiracy. I'll log it under "quote from an insider ".
