    Hi,

Win ME, IE 5.5, most windows updates applied.

I keep getting an error "Iexplore has caused an error in shell32.dll. Iexplore will now close." This is the whole error message. No details button and no address. I've been unable to locate any similar errors by searching here, searching M$ knowledgebase and the web.

Once I get the error, I end up replacing the file or running system restore. The system will work for a while, but if the error occurs again, I'm dead in the water 'till I restore the file.

Does anybody have any idea what could be causing the error?

    What does shell32.dll do?

    Would installing IE6.0 help?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

First suggestion would be to update to IE6,

I've known loads of people that have had that problem but could never quite suss out exactly what it was. After upgrading to the latest version the problem went away.

I know someone on an XP box sent an error report with that error and was told to download a patch... I cant remember what it was tho  but I do know the patch is integrated with 6.0 and above

I'd suggest anyone to upgrade to 6.0 having problems or not; it appears much more stable than the previous versions in general.

Other alternative is to use Opera 7.0 ;)

I'm really beginning to like that browser now hehe

    http://www.opera.com/

    hope that helps

    Ian.

Thanks Ian, I'll give the upgrade a try. I'll let you know what happens.
