Does anyone know if IE9 will play nicely with XP? The higher speed being touted in the MS TV commercials has my interest, as IE8 seems to be embeeded in molasses in Anchorage in January much of the time.

It seems to get worse as the day progresses and I get occasional mesages about sites (two in particular) trying to "copy script ", which "might make IE run slowly ".

Clean your Temp Files and do a defrag. I usually go to Start/Programs/Accessories/Disc Cleanup and put a check in ALL the boxes then when it is finished do a defrag.

I do a defrag once a week, Bill. I also use ccleaner after a defrag.

I shut things down every night and back on in a morning. IE8 seems to start to drag after about two hours from start-up. Maybe it's time to switch over to Chrome.

Thanks for the tip about incompatiblity with XP, Doc.

    I'll declare this thread solved.

    You are doing it backwards.
Running CCkeaner after a defrag is backwards. You are defraging stuff you are removing from your PC then removing it and now there are holes already in the HD.

Next time you do a CCleaner, as soon as you are finished, go to Start/Programs/Accessories/Disc Cleanup and see how much is still left that can be got rid of. You will be greatly supprised.

That's interesting, Bill. Run ccleaner and then do a defrag. I'll try that next time.

As a matter of interest, my son is one of the people who run a data center in Japan for a French company with a global customer base. He looks after company e-mail traffice in an area from the west coast of India to the east coast of Japan and from the Arctic circle to the equator. The data bank he looks after is in the thousands of terabytes.

Shortly after he started the job, I asked how he ran a defrag. His reply was "I haven't even considered it yet." He visited us a couple of weeks ago with his wife and our 9-month-old grand-daughter. After 4 years, he still hasn't built up the courage to do a defrag. I suspect they just keep adding memory because the down time for a defrag of something that big would take days.

Don't forget to go to Disc Cleanup after you do the CCleaner and look at what is left that can be removed. Then do your Defrag. With Windows 7, it does it automatically for you. You can do it if you want to anytime. I look at it this way. The less that I make the HD do, the longer it "SHOULD" last. :D
