Every time I open a web page I am automatically scrolled down to the bottom of that page and when I try to scroll back up I am just taken back down to the bottom. I have no idea what is going on, it started happening yesterday evening and has stopped for brief periods when I first turn on my laptop. Can some one please help me fix this problem any help at all will be much appreciated.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

Does this phenomenon occurr with other scrollable pages - e.g. a Word document?

My first guess is that it is nothing to do with IE8, but may be associated with your touchpad.

Do you see the same effect if the touch pad is turned off and you use a mouse?

    Thank you for the help.

It does occur with all scrollable pages but it also happens with and without the touchpad and with and without the mouse. But thank you for the advise and if you have any more it would be greatly appreciated.

Did you install any new software yeterday - including updates of any sort?

It would be interesting to see if the problem remains if the touch pad is disabled in Device Manager rather than simply turned off.

As the mouse and touchpad are somewhat integrated it might be worth uninstalling the touchpad through Device Manager and see if the issue remains with the mouse alone. The touchpad will be detected and reinstalled when you reboot.

There is always the possibility that an updated touchpad driver is available on the laptop manufacturer's web site.

If none of these suggestions work an update of the graphics driver would be worthwhile.

You could always consider a System Restore to a point prior to the issue arising.

Is it possible that you have a stuck or sticky "arrow" down key or perhaps a "page down" or "end" key?
