I upgraded from IE7 to IE8 today and nothing in my computer worked right. IE8 would not open. So I decided to go to add and remove programs. Control Panel would not open. I then tried System Restore, except it would not open.

I shut down the computer and rebooted in safe mode. I was able to do a system restore from there. I was back to IE7, but it was not working properly. And I was not able to access Internet Options.

I then reinstalled IE7 and still the same problem. I then downgraded to IE6. Everything is now working right.

    What went wrong?

I was able to open some things, My Documents for example. I was not able to get on the Internet. Smart NoteBook and TI SmartView would not open.

It was then I tried System Restore. It would not open. Thats when I shut down the computer and rebooted in safe mode.

I restored back to the point just before IE8 was installed. The computer was back to normal. But not IE7. All the tool bars were missing. I was able to go to Restricted sites (instead of getting the "this site cannot be displayed" message). I was not even able to open internet options.

At this point I downgraded the system to IE6. Everything is back to normal.

A few minutes ago I reinstalled IE7, everything is OK

I think it was a corrupt Download, I'll retry again later.

No IE8 for me. I installed it on my Desktop this time. It did not affect the Desktop like the laptop, but I had no internet access at all. Basically all I had when I opened Internet Explorer was a white blank screen. After about five minutes, I went to Add/Remove programs and removed IE8. All is back to normal.

IE8 is one browser that I'll be avoiding

Strange. I've got three computers here and everything working ok with IE8. In fact, I've dropped Opera & Firefox by the wayside. Up to this point, I've heard no "twilight zone" music.

I should say though, that a User Agreement window will not show up full size when trying to install "The Weather Channel" but I'm not sure if that's IE8 or something else. Otherwise, all seems to be ok. When something does rear its ugly head though, I'll be on here crying for help!!! :)

And this suggests a course of action how?

I'm gonna deal with this later, I have my final Teacher Test in the middle of April. Test comes first.

The course of action would be to find out *exactly* what is the problem with your computer. Do let us know, but only after your exams of course, exactly what was your problem.

Hope you do well on your test!!!
