Hello. I recently updated to IE8 and now I can't open PDF files on web sights. I can save them to my desk top and open them just fine. OS is Win XP Pro. My laptop with Win 7 is experiencing the same problem. In the IE add-ons all the Adobe add-ons are enabled. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    dutch

In IE, click Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab > Restore advanced settings > then Reset... > select Delete personal settings > Reset. When it's done, close and restart IE, then try http://tncc.edu/browsertest/test.pdf again.

Ok. I followed your instructions on restoring advanced settings. I still get the original message along with this one.

    Thanks again,

Thank you for reply goddez1. Yes. I do have Adobe Reader Pro installed. Worked just fine until I updated to IE 8.

    Thanks,

When IE pops up that error message there is a "click here" link at the end of the last sentence. Click it and post the contents of the error report here. It may contain something that will help.

Thanks for reply SpywareDr. I opened the first "click here" to reveal the attached message. I don't know how to capture the whole error report but I'll keep trying.

    Thanks,

I'd never considered using IE to open PDF or even MSWord files. If it's a .doc, I'd use Word, for a .pdf I use Adobe Reader. I think the current version I have is 11.0 - it got an update just a couple of days ago.

I'm still trying to find time to get the ability to translate .docx files fired up. I did download the translator from MS, but haven't activated it yet.

Once again I thank everyone for their inout. I ran the program that SpywareDr recomended (Trend Micro's House call). One Trojan was detected and removed. The problem with PDF's did not change. I did some research on "InfoAtomsClientIE.dll" and discovered other people had problems with it too. I went to Control Pannel and removed it. The problem appeares to be resolved now. I can open PDF files on line with no problem now. Thanks so much for your help,

    dutch

I have yet to try this on the laptop with Win 7 but I'll let you know.

I gave it a shot. Unfortunately I could not give this post the time and attention it needed. for that, I apologize. A good thing it was SpywareDr who started and finished with the help you needed. I am also glad the problem is behind you.

What happens if you update IE to the latest version (IE 9) which has been out for about a year? It is more secure that IE 8 is.

MrBill, My operating system is Win XP Pro. I just found out that IE8 is the latest for XP PRO. Vista and higher is listed for IE9. Good suggestion though.

    Thanks again,

OK. You had mentioned in your first post about your laptop and Win 7 is why I suggested IE9. Didn't know you had XP on the other PC.
