I noticed several people advised to upgrade IE6 to IE7. Didn't that upgrade mess up a lot of computers? I so rarely use IE unless absolutely forced to, that it made no difference to me and I never upgraded. I cannot put something on my computer that is known to cause problems. I wondered why some of you urge the upgrade?
I really hate IE...I don't like anything about it...it requires too much fiddling around with it and the font is terrible and hard to read. Why is it so necessary to make a browser so complicated?

Unless someone sticks a gun to your head - it's your pc and you can choose to do with it as you please;)

Me and a few Billion people haven't had any problems with IE7 and love IE in general.

Of course that is true, but you didn't answer my question as to why some people have urged others to upgrade from IE6.What is the advantage?

The advantage may be that IE7 has some newer features not present in IE6, plus it contains fixes. Personally, I have not put IE7 on any of my comps at home, IE6 does all I need it to do. I don't like the IE7 UI (user interface).

It is more secure than IE 6 and has tabbed browsing.

I have used IE 7 since the beta days (was a beta tester) without any issues. Initially I found the interface changes irritating - no one likes changes, but now I have no problems.

also due to IE6 not being very secure and still having some security exploits, just having it on your system "can" leave you open to attack.

I highlight "can" because it is unlikely although possible.

IE7 works fine and is a good browser (although it's phishing detection is a bit slow to update). However as most I use Firefox as the main browser.

I am not an expert, but the way it was explained to me, IE of any variety is not really a "program ", or "application ".

When you launch IE, Windows just brings together a specific set of files,.dll's, etc.

It is in that sense that IE7 is better than IE6. With IE7, Microsoft tightened up Windows security in general.

I myself do not use IE. I use either Firefox or SeaMonkey

I use Seamonkey myself...I never use IE except for Windows Updates....they keep after me to update to IE7 but last year I read that a lot of people ran into difficulties when they updated so, as I don't use it, I didn't want to take a chance with the upgrade. Some people had no trouble, but a lot of people did...
When I first got a computer I used Netscape and had used it right up to NS7.2 and then I switched to Seamonkey and kept up with the upgrades right up to the latest 1.1.7....

I keep IE6 updated and use it for a select few sites that I need it for. I have the settings tweaked to keep it as secure as possible. SpywareBlaster helps. My main browser will always be Opera.
