    PROBLEM
    =======
    Since loading IE7 I have been unable to log in to my Head Office web site (to order spares).

    ANALYSIS
    ========
    My Head Office has a web site (to order spares) which requires me to log in using a username and a password. Since loading IE7 I am unable to log in.
    I get the following message:-
    ++++++++++++++++++
    Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
    Most likely causes:
    You are not connected to the Internet.
    The website is encountering problems.
    There might be a typing error in the address.
    ++++++++++++++++++

    Head Office has just issued an edict saying there is a problem with the way that IE7 handles/processes usernames and passwords.

    SOLUTION
    ========
    I can't be the only chap to have this problem.
    Q1. Is a problem with the way that IE7 handles/processes usernames and passwords?
    Q2. Is there a solution on the way?

    Many thanks

    Mike

    You do not specify if this is a secure site or not; and if so the type of SSL security required.

    Lets begin by assuming it is not a secure site. Ignore the explanation for why this fix is used. Apply the patch to cure non-secure site authentication issues: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/904942

    Then open IE, Tools, Internet Options, Advanced tab

    Scroll down to find:

    Remove checkmark from 'use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections'
    Remove checkmark for 'Enable integrated Windows Authentication'
    Checkmark 'Use TLS 1.0'
    Checkmark 'Use SSL 3.0'
    Un-Checkmark 'Use SSL 2.0'

    Apply to save your settings.

    Now click on the 'Connections' tab.
    Click on LAN Settings.
    Uncheck to 'automaticly discover your settings'

    Save your settings.

    Reboot and test.
