I am not clear on the instructions found at msft KB. This particular one doesn't seem to be there but it's close. Anyway, there are two problems with IE7.
First ... In Yahoo mail and Lycos and on at least one blog site, when I'm there, there is a partial message from IE7 that says it can not open the page. But it does open the page. The problem is... while the web site or email might be open, so is the error message. Sometimes the can not open page is scattered over the page that's open. In other words, it shows up in two or three places. But the page I want is open to read and not at all blocked.

Second, web pages open in IE7 are hanging. Sometimes for long periods.
Like as much as 10 seconds. That's pretty long.

    Isn't there a quick fix?
Hope I have posted this correctly.

In response to your first query .....

I guess you are seeing something similar to the screenshot below in which there are 2 'Internet Explorer cannot .....' This is most welcome :) - they are generally adverts and you most probably have some antispyware/malware program installed or a custom HOSTS file which are blocking some ads, or the source of the ads such as doubleclick.net, etc .... When using the back button on pages which display the message you may find that you have to click back several times before the page reverts to the previous one - the reason is that each ad. is hosted separately and linked in with the page you are viewing.

Hanging web pages/slow to open web pages in IE 7 or other browsers are generally caused by your ISP or the ISP on which the pages reside or by heavy traffic on the internet route between the source and your computer. You may find some advantage in clearing out your Temporary Internet files - there is a setting in Tools > Internet Options > Advanced to do this automatically each time the browser is closed - scroll down to the Security section.

IE7 unable to open page ,BUT

    Hi Pete and thanks ...

    Couldn't work that one out.

Re. the other, understood. I always do that almost automatically. Empty temp, cache, history etc.
So, why does FireFox close immediately and not IE?
