Since installing IE7, I have noticed that left clicking on links on certain webpages (including WindowsBBS) will not work unless I simultaneously click Control. A message appears in the Status Bar to that effect. The message implies that it is the page on which the link appears which has the problem, not the page to which the link leads.
The image below shows the Status Bar message. As can be seen this is a WindowsBBS page. The link I had left clicked was "Gain Knowledge" in TeMerc's post above mine.
I am using both Google Toolbar's and IE's popup blockers, but I have been using that combination for some time without this problem. Of course the IE popup blocker was, until the last few days, the one in IE6, not IE7. And the browser has been IE6, not IE7.
I have no problem opening the link by right clicking and opening in New Window.
The problem (and Status bar message) does not appear if I disable the Google popup blocker. The left click on link then works without holding down Control.
Is it the combination of the Google popup blocker with IE7 or with IE7's popup blocker that is causing the problem? (If so, why did this not occur with IE6?)
Is there a setting in IE7 to stop the need to hold down Control? (I have tried the various popup settings in Internet Options|General tab|Tabs with no success.) Is there a setting in WindowsBBS?

P.S. Slightly off the subject, the Manage Attachments button on WindowsBBS Post Reply page does not work unless I disable the Google popup blocker. Even holding down the Control key when clicking Manage Attachments does not work. That never was the case with IE6.

    Hi Jim,

Pete uses the Google tool bar and I remember him posting that it had to be updated for IE7.

    Regards - Charles

charlesvar--Thanks as always for your response.
The new Google Toolbar is a PITA--takes up more than half a toolbar. I suspect MS wants us to use the Search box.
I hope that is not the answer.

You blame Microsoft for the new Google Toolbar! Unbelievable.

In any case, at far right is the Settings drop down control. Select Options and remove any features or buttons you wish.

    Hu?

Microsoft is just telling you that if you want to continue using Google's toolbar, you need to get the latest version.

All these toolbars 'hook' in to Microsoft's (IE) code. Since IE7 has a lot of new code, these 'hooks' will have changed, so you'll need a new version.

    Bill Castner--
Yes, I had read that. Google Desktop and Google Toolbar are two different programs. Since Desktop is mentioned twice in the Installation Notes, I was hoping they meant Desktop and not Toolbar.

They meant Toolbar, just as they stated.
There are issues with Desktop Search as well, and it too has been updated for IE 7 issues, especially searching PDF files.
