I re-installed Windows XP SP2 today. Installed all updates.

When I close IE and reopen it my Links bar disappears. I right click on IE and tic the Links bar. It stays in place until I close IE. Open IE, no links bar. Also tic lock the toolbars but no good.

    What my problem be? Thanks.

Uh, according to the thread title its IE7. :)

    Wake up Pete....LOL

I had a similiar problem before and the solution was to goto msconfig, startup tab, and uncheck AutoTBar, installed by HP. Did not help this time.

My bad - was early (for me :)) and was preoccupied with hospital appointment - which panned out OK.

You are on the right track .....

    Disable all IE7 add-ons (Tools > Manage Add-ons .... )

If the problem is resolved re-enable each add-on in turn and test.

If not try a roll back to IE 6 and re-install 7

Lots of add ons. I did the ones currently loaded in IE. Made no difference. All toolbars stay in place except the Links.

You want me to do all the others; Ones used by IE, Ones that run without permission, and the downloaded active X controls. Want me to delete all these and try?

Won't mess up anything will it? I've never messed around with these before. Looked like I could cause some real damage so I left it alone. :)

Glad to hear your hospital appointment turned out ok. :) :) :)

Yes - don't delete - just disable then they can be re-enabled.

Well guess what? I tried disabling all, but on the side of caution I only disabled those that had (not verified) in front of the company name. Microsoft had a few but most were by Motive Communications.

Anyway, after restarting IE, the toolbars stayed. Yay.

    Thanks Pete.

You're welcome :) - my best guess - Motive. You now need to re-enable one by one to find the culprit - start with MS. I always find it strange that some MS add-ons are 'not verified' - they wrote IE 7 and their add-ons

I re-enabled those from Microsoft. But the others....not verified = not trustworthy = don't know anything about em. Are they safe? What are they anyway?

    Good find :)

Interesting to note that SP3 does not include IE 7 or WMP 11 - go figure.

Definately a good find Broni. Although I did a format/reinstall instead of a repair installation and got this problem. Still not sure how.

And Pete, IE 7 and WMP 11 were probably left out of SP 3 to keep the MB's under 1000.

    Just a guess. :)

I rather doubt that - the full SP3 CD download is 'only' 546 Mb unzipped - it includes all updates since SP1. I have no idea of the reasoning behind that rather, to my mind, bizarre decision by MS.
