    It just happened recently when I visited some sites, the error was:

    Microsoft Visual C++ runtime library:

    runtime error

    Program: C:\Progra~1\IE\iexplorer.exe

    Abnormal program termination

    It was not the sites.:eek:

    Try:-

    1) Disabling any ad-blocking/popup stopping utilities;

    2) Run the IE Repair Tool (Start - Settings - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - MS Internet Explorer (double click this entry) - Repair);

    3) Run SFC (click Start - Run - type "SFC" (without the quotes); and

    4) As a last resort, dowload and (over)install MS Virtual Machine.

    re: runtime error

    Sorry, Brett. I did all but the last suggested tip and it did not help. Besides, I also did the following:

    1. defragmented the drive

    2. scanned it

    3. remove some softwares I installed recently

    4. reinstalled all the components of IE6

    5. Installed Visual C++ 6.0

    6. Cleaned up the drived

    7. Ran Norton Antivirus. One problem: Norton asked the booting record has changed, do I want to move back to the old record( fi I have made no changed to it ), I selected "no change" because I wasn't sure and be on the safe side. Any how, no virus.

    problem solved

    Brett. You were right. I had two jdk(1.3 and 1.4). Somehow it mixed things up. And when I uninstalled both and reinstalled js2sdk1.4, the problem is solved. Thank you very much.

    I hadn't thought about java because the Sun demo applets( for jdk 1.3) worked.

    Bluesky, It sounds like a programming error in IE6. I'm sure M$ would be delighted to hear about it and will no doubt respond immediately with a patch for you. Maybe even a free upgrade. :D

    But seriously, if you can pinpoint the cause of the error and report it it will help. At least you'll know what to avoid.

    The short term cure is , go back to IE 5.5 ;)
