I have tried everything. Reinstalling IE6 and virus checks, and scand disks and everything. But no matter what I do I cannot seem to get the internet to allow me to use search engines. First I type msn.com then it loads but as soon as i type something into the search area and press enter a 404 page error pops up[ saying that this page annot be displayed. Please I've had this problem for many months and really need it fixed. Also its not only msn, its google, yahoo etc. I have XP home edition and have had it working for awhile. I know that its not the connection as I can use my brothers computer with the internet.

Hello, and welcome to the boards.
You seem to have been hijacked. Get Spybot from below, update it, and then Check for Problems. When done, use HijackThis from the link below, and post the log here.

Once you have the program installed , open SpyBot and select the "Immunize" icon on the left & Click on Immunize , in the new page .

Permanently running bad download blocker for Internet Explorer .
Select > Block all bad pages silently & click Install .

Then check the box "lock hosts file read-only as protection against hijackers ".
