I am running two Win 98's on my computer. One is for me and the other is for my wife. On her side IE would have a popup that said it had encountered an error and would need to close. Went to add/remove to repair IE. I wasn't paying close attention and ended up doing a restore previous windows config. It will not open and niether will my documents. Iwent back and did a repair. But it says IE cannot be repaired due to the following reasons: Version5.0.0.3715 of file SCRRUN.DLL exits, but it needs to be greater than 5.1.0.5010. Can anyone help me on this one? Thanks

mtwilco--Basically what you did was to remove IE6 and go back to a previous version of Internet Explorer that is/was on your PC. But it seems an incompatible version of SCRRUN.DLL was left behind.
I think all you will need to do is to download and reinstall IE6.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.asp
The reinstall should also give you an up-to-date version of SCRRUN.DLL.

In the future, when you get that IE error message, you probably do not need to Repair Internet Explorer. The errors are usually memory problems and unless you get a lot of them, there is little you can do, other than to allow IE to shut down and then start it up again (perhaps after a reboot to really clear things up).

    IE cannot be repaired

I tried all of the above, but no luck. IE still will not load up. Is there any way to update the SCRRUN.DLL file? Can I uninstall IE6 and reinstall? Update did not work. Another problem, but don't if it is related. Conagent.exe popup says : Properties for this program cannot be verified. APPS.INF file missing. Copy APPS.INF file from windows setup disk into your windows INF folder. I have OEM disk. What are the steps for doing this? Thank you.

    Hello

You have win me set with two particians cant you just replace the offending SCRRUN.DLL .rather than trying to extract--then try updating with one of the methods I suggested ? dont delete the old one just rename it and then put in place
    My current version is 5.6.0.6626

Alll help needed here forum ?

    Did you try this ?

If add a component isnt available find( do a search for) ie6setup.exe or ie5setup.exe doublel/click on

It would be very odd not to have ether.
How are you trying to start ie --from the keyboard ?

Tried IE6 setup executive. But no luck. I am not quite sure about how to replace the file. I try to access IE form the taskbar and the icon on the desktop. It starts to load and then the error message pops up. Guess I need a little more instruction. Thanks

Since you have tried running Ie6setup.Exe, you must have the folder containing the IE install files. Use System File Checker to replace the file. Start\Run, type in SFC then press enter. Select extract one file from installation disk. Browse to where the file is and select it, or fill in the path\filename, click Start in SFC. Another window will open, this is where you browse to the folder containing the IE files [default=C:\Windows Update Setup Files], click OK. You will be prompted to save the old file, click OK, let it create a folder named C:\Windows\Helpdesk\Sfc if necessary.
    Good luck to you!

Well, I have updated the scrrun.dll and still no IE. I have done all that I can with my limited Knowledge of computering. Anyone have some more ideas that might steer me in the right direction? It has become quite frustrating. Any help would be much appreciated.

I think that you are going to have to install IE6 SP1 to get things right. You have said you have attempted this, but met with failure. What error message did you receive, or what did happen?

Another thing, to find out the version number of Scrrun.Dll, right click on it in Windows Explorer, another window will open, then left click on the Version tab. Here is something else to try; open a dos prompt window and type in these commands. It will register the file.
    cd\windows\system <enter>
    regsvr32 scrrun.dll <enter>

Please stick with we will solve this

I would help if when suggestions are made if you describe in more detail what you did and what happend --so we are sure you tried ..
what version is Scrrun.Dll now that its registerd ?
If you search for and find Scrrun.Dll on the good pc or partician
copy it r/ click drag to desktop and choose copy--then put on the desktop of the pc that has problems --find the same file --rename it say to Scrrun.xxx --- put the new one in same area
and then register it as described before then see what happens.

    Good luck
