IE5 to IE6 SP1-but no SSL!

Aaargh!
I`ve just,after a Win98SE re-install,upgraded to IE6SP1 from IE5(128 encryption),plus adding all the updates necessary for "secure "(a relative term for MS) operation. Now I find I cannot access any SSL/TSL sites at all! Everything else seems normal,and no undue tweaking has been involved.My main reason for using IE(banking, and secure sites that do not like other browsers) has now gone!Reverting back to IE5 has not helped.Ran System File Checker and found "setupx.dll" may be corrupted-relevant? Anyone any ideas please?
I hope this is not the second time I`ve had a corrupted update download.

perkin--Click IE Tools|Internet Options|Advanced tab. Are the boxes at the bottom to use SSL/TSL checked? If not, check them|Apply|OK.

 

Sorry,but that was the first thing I checked-even to unchecking and rechecking the tick boxes. Secure sites appear to start to load but never complete-leaving a blank page. I`ve also checked with a SSL/TSL test webpage,but seems OK in that case alone. Good thing I use Opera and Firefox mainly,but sadly they do have the odd page rendering problem now and then.

 

perkin--Can't see why a corrupt setupx.dll would affect access to SSL sites, but a possible fix for the setupx.dll problem is

Note you can modify the Registry to undo the Critical Update patch's "fix ".
