Oh dear - I've ******* up rather badly here.

A friend phoned me up while I was a bit sick with the flu' so I wasn't thinking straight and gave them wrong advice. They are using Win95 and were using Internet Explorer 4. This was giving fatal exception errors etc when surfing so, after checking that their antivirus had been updated etc, etc, I somehow got my ideas mixed and told them to use the Internet Explorer "repair" utility which comes under Add/Remove programs. However, this feature is with Internet Explorer 5 - not 4 - so following my lead, they inadvertantly uninstalled IE altogether.

Now - I owe them a visit (even tough I'm still not well) to at least get IE back and working again (although I think I will also recommend Mozilla which is superior IMO). I have a Windows98-SE CD which should include IE4, but everything seems to be stored in CAB files... I can't find an IEsetup file anywhere.

...where can I get an install of IE4 from so that I can right the wrong I caused by reinstalling IE4 to my friends system?

    I can't find a source of IE 4 - others may be wiser :)

Why not download 5.5 from here - compatible with W95

Wow! Thanks both of you :)

I take it that the IE4.01 downloads are "choice" based rather than having to download all of them (e.g: if I donwload IE4full - would I then need to download everything in the patch folder, and then I assume I would also need to download SP1 and then SP2) - Am I right?

SP1 or SP2 are full versions, no need to download each seperately. There are all really large downloads, I would go with SP2. Do you have a burner or a Zip drive? You are looking at 50 + mb.

    Full Versions?

Okay... when you say SP2 is a full version, do you mean that it's a full version patch (contains all that SP1 does to patch IE4 with) or do you mean that if I install SP2 without IE4 at all, it will put IE4 onto my system?

I can download here using wget (I use Linux myself, but this is similar to GetRight) and then burn onto CD.

    IE4 SP1 and IE4 SP2 are both full versions .

IE4 SP1 includes the patches from Service Pack 1

IE4 SP2 includes the patches from Service Packs 1 and 2.

Installing IE4 SP2 will put the latest - and last version of IE4 onto your system, fully patched.
