I've read alot about this issue, but I wanted to check what the pros here recommend. Below is a link to a huge batch file that re-installs / re-registers everything having to do with IE. Is it recommended?

    --------------
The problem observed: A user has URL shortcuts on their desktop that has lets say, "http://www.nbc.com/" as a target. Double-clicking this opens just fine. Sometimes. The observed behavior is that a user can open 1-2 tabs by dbl-clicking on different URL shortcuts on the desktop. Around about the 3rd shortcut, a blank tab opens up. The tab is blank / no name on the tab, and no content in the window. Pasting in / typing in the URL works just fine, but there are very non-technical users, and they need their shortcuts; everything else is over their heads unfortunately.
    --------------
Another problem observed: With 2-3 tab open, a user will switch over to tab 1, then when they switch back to the 3rd tab, it VANISHES....

Well here we go guessing and playing 20 questions again because somebody won't fill out their system specs.

I took the time (which I or anybody else should not have to do) and found that the OP is using Win 7. Running IE 10 on a Win 7 machine is not a secure version of IE. IE 11 should be on the PC in question for safety reasons.

OP here: I never solved this problem, but there was a work-around. The problem that I saw, was when you double-clicked a desktop-based shortcut that contained something like "http://www.cnn.com ". We worked-around the problem by putting all the users' shortcuts *IN* the browser so they appear in the Favorites menu. No more double-clicking the desktop shortcuts. --Problem gone. The company I work for only supports up to IE10 because of legacy Java issues, and lots of legacy web-apps....

Java is more unsecure than IE 10 is. Wonder why they don't upgrade or do something different?
