When I open IE it never opens maximized. How do I set it to default to maximize when I open IE.

    Joyce,

This appears to be an annoying 'feature' of IE - one method is to drag the window to fit the screen and when you close it, hold down the Ctrl key. Next time you open IE it should remain 'maximised'.

    or

Right click on the IE icon in the Quick Launch bar (by Start) > Properties > Run > Maximised

There may well be other solutions .........

    Here are a few:

If you insist on remaining committed to an IE type browser, with all of its vulnerabilities and idiosyncracies (and the fact that MS will no longer upgrade it), give SlimBrowser a try. Otherwise, try Mozilla (see 1.6a, Win32, Full Installer), Firebird, or (ugh!) Opera.

Why do you say that ?

Since IE was invented I have never found a problem with it.

Think I've tried them all, and keep going back to IE for the convenience factor. I have a good third party firewall, and have never experienced a security issue from IE with my own computer. I have cleaned up a few messes on other people's comps, though, but I attribute all of that to the operator, not the browser. JMO, FWIW

The thing I dislike most about IE is the way it handles bookmarks (favorites), but that's probably because I've used Netscape, in one flavor or another (Communicator, Netscape 6/7, Mozilla, Firebird), as my designated browser for as long as I've owned a PC.

Until recently, when forced to use IE, I had the same problem as Joyce (whompuscat) - after the initial window, all subsequent windows opened in what MS considers "normal" size. IE Maximizer helped, but was only a stopgap. I just checked, though, and now all IE windows open the way they always should have - MAXIMIZED - and I have no idea why ... just another MS mystery, I suppose.

Mozilla Firebird is now my designated browser, even though it's pre-release and the bugs are still being worked out. Even so, it's rock-solid and, once you've tried tabbed browsing, you may never want to go back to a browser that doesn't have it.

And, I keep SlimBrowser, an IE derivative, around to handle those sites which seem to be IE specific (which means, I'm told, that they don't conform to accepted coding standards). It handles my Netscape bookmarks just fine, and it's constantly upgraded - which IE isn't, and won't be.
