I have IE6 on a W98SE system. When I try to invoke a pop up on a web page the window hangs and does not load. I can cancel the window and proceed but can't get the pop up to load. All the other normal links and web pages load as normal. This has only happened recently. I have been able to access pop ups in the past. I have tried disabling the pop up blocking software on my ISP and on another program I have with no results. I have also shut down the fire wall thinking it might be causing a problem since I recently upgraded this. Again no results. Help!

    New YorkDon--
I feel I must misunderstand. Do you want popups? Most people do not. Do you have a popup stopper installed? If so, disable it. Many program suites such as Norton and McAfee install popup stoppers as part of the program.
Also, depending on settings in IE|Internet Options|Security or in a HOSTS file you may be blocking popups.
How are you trying to "invoke a popup "?
Maybe I do not know what you mean by "popups "? Like "Tool Tips "?
Or do you really mean that you do not want popups, but a site has one and its loading is causing a long delay in your seeing the site? If so, is this happening only one or a few sites? If so, which sites?
If the latter, get a popup stopper or tell us which sites so we can test them out.
Post back if you want recommendations.

There are 'pop ups' and 'pop ups' - pop up ads and genuine pop up windows which are part of the legitimate functioning of the web site.

Pop up stoppers - try the Google tool bar - works well in this respect - get rid of (most) pop up ads.

Legitimate Pop up windows can be suppressed by your security settings - see How to surf the Internet more safely with Internet Explorer . As noted there it may be necessary to add the site to the Trusted Zone (albeit temporarily) for it to function correctly.

You should never be online, even for a few seconds, without your firewall enabled. If your firewall is not on, you need to be offline. Configure firewalls, don't disable them. 'Nuff said.
