I have a computer a friend gave to try an fix. Its 98se, he says IE or NS wont load web pages, says it cant find server. AOL was also installed, will connect to AOL but wont load a browser as well, yet can get into chat rooms, and other stuff. IE version is 6.0 sp1, NS is 7.1. I scanned for viruses, none, ran test on modom, it works fine, I also put a net work card in cause I have broadband. I can talk to my computer and transfer files between the two.

I reinstalled 98se, tried to do a repair on IE, nothing. I did a file check and they came back fine. So..

    1. AOL will connect to itself
    2. Modom passes diag. test.
    3. network card works (can go between 2 comps)
    4. AOL messenger will NOT connect

Any ideas??... he really does not want the hard drive wiped out and I dont think it needs too be but never know.

    Thanks in advance.

    I appologize, should have noticed...

After I posted the above, I left my desk for a while, came back and noticed the "related" links, read one of them and a suggestion for a simulare problem was to download a winsock repair tool. I downloaded it, sent it over to the other comp and ran it. I got IE and all else to work.

If who ever monitors this part of the forum wishes to delete this post no problem, go for it.

I come to this site when I need ideas, fixes, or just to read and Im glad its here.

    Thanks all.
