Another wierd problem, post SP 2, but possibly hardware related.

    HP laptop - XP Pro + SP 2 ......

If a USB mouse (MS) is plugged in IE or OE will lock up the computer completely, needing a reset, after a few minutes.

Also noted this evening that it locked up with a flatbed scanner plugged in while I was trying to send a fax.

Absolutely no problem with USB devices outside of IE/OE/Fax.

Have reformatted and reinstalled XP Pro + SP 2 from a slipstreamed CD to no avail.

A hardware problem would seem a possibility - have changed mice to no effect, but why only in IE/OE. Run System File Checker - no change.

Seems to be related only to DUN.

    Any ideas??

FYI - I have solved this problem :)

The laptop has the drivers for a Belkin USB 2 card installed - connecting a USB mouse to the USB 1 port of the laptop resulted in IE/OE seizing up.

Inserting the USB 2 card and connecting the USB mouse to this card appears to have solved the problem.

Maybe a driver conflict, although as I mentioned the USB mouse worked fine when plugged into the USB 1 port for general use, but not in IE/OE.

    Weird or what ??
