Hello, I moved on from Win 98 to XP Home in a completely new computer. IE looks wierd now. Colors and not where they are supposed to be or not there at all. Same with text. Some text has other text under neath it. My Netscape Ver 7.2 looks great. The font size, resolution and DPI are set properly. (I believe) Has anyone ever heard of this issue?

Bimmer Guy--Well, the "look" of WinXP is different from the "look" of Win98. And for a while you will hate having to get used to the "look" as well as how various functions work.
You can get the "look" back (at least partially) by right clicking a blank spot next to the clock|Properties|Start Menu tab|choose Classic View. Try it, however, I suggest switch back to WinXP view (Start Menu), because Classic View, for better or worse, is the past, and it is best to learn how to use WinXP.
There are lots of tutorials on using WinXP.
    http://www.google.com/search?source...ls=GGLD,GGLD:2004-31,GGLD:en&q=WinXP+tutorial
And there is the Help function on the Toolbar.
One of the first things you should do is run Windows Update.
    http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us
There are probably plenty of updates since the maker of your PC installed WinXP.
P.S. I must confess that I am not sure what the problem(s) is/are that you are trying to fix. Please tell us in more detail.

Hi Welshjim: Thanks for replying. I am slowly getting the hang of XP. I noticed a problem when I had both browsers (IE & Netscape ver 7.2) open to the same website. Netscape came in fine, while IE was missing portions, text, colors. Some text is covering other text. I did D/L all available updates. I never experienced this before or even heard of it. I hope I explained the issue clearly enough to maybe remedy it.

Bimmer Guy--Have you gone to Windows Update since installing WinXP? You should, since there are many updates there which could have an effect on the performance of IE.
If that does not help, perhaps some of your IE files are corrupt. Try Start|Run|type sfc /scannow|OK. Have your Windows XP CD available in case you are asked to insert into the CD-ROM drive. If you get a message including "Retry" just keep clicking Retry.
If that does not work, I think I would be inclined to first turn NetScape off when using IE. And if that does not help, uninstall NetScape.

Welshjim, yes I have all up the window updates for xp. I'm running SP2. sfc /scannow did'nt appear to do much. (Windows file protection) If I uninstall Netscape I have no browser. IE is too difficult to read and I don't get to see the entire webpage. (portions are missing) I'm using the ver of IE 6.0.2900 that came with xp. My Win 98 SP1 ver of IE was fine.

    Bimmer Guy--
Have things been that way since you first got the new PC? Or did this start only recently? Did the problem seem to start about the time you installed Netscape or any other soft/hardware?
SFC /SCANNOW usually fixes IE problems. Sorry it did not work.
Are you able to reach websites using IE?
Is the PC still in warranty? You could phone tech service, if it is.

Hi Welshjim: Thanks for getting back. This pc only came w/ IE and has been like this from first day. Problem was existing before I put on Netscape. Yes, I can reach websites in IE however portions are missing. (text, color) Size of text is not what it should be compared to my other computers (2 at work) Netscape is responding just fine. I'll take this pc in and get it looked at as it is only 3 weeks old and must be under warranty.

Bimmer Guy--Three weeks should certainly be within the warranty of any reputable seller. But do it very soon. 30 days might be the witching hour.
It might be best to uninstall Netscape before taking it in. Otherwise, many techs will tell you that is the problem. Of course that depends on how well you know the seller, etc.
    Good luck.

Hi Welshjim: The pc tech told me that a font was added in the registry from somewhere and it was making the type large squeezing images on the web pages and putting type on top of each other. Not knowing how or where this font entered the reg. he formatted it for me. All is working nicely now.

Bimmer Guy--Thanks so much for posting back. Now we all have learned. That tech is to be congratulated!!
P.S. I knew some years ago that a font could do this, but the memory ain't what it used to be, and I certainly cannot remember which font(s) cause the problem. Did the tech mention which font?

Hi, the tech had no idea of the font in question. He figured a format of a resonably empty H/D would be easier & quicker than trying to locate that stray font. (needle in a haystack)
