I am consistently getting the "IE needs to close .." message usually when I try to access a link within a trusted web page. I have sent the error message to Microsoft each time this happens. (Am unsure where that goes or how it's used!) I have been unsuccessful in being able to download Microsoft's "debug help" suggestion for this message.

I have Windows XP Home with SP2 and plenty of free disk space. I suspect the root cause of this annoying occurance is my recent download of Trend Micro's PC-cillin Internet Security 2007 software, but really am not sure. I have been trying to find anti-virus, spam, etc. software that doesn't hog the cpu while it's running. ZoneAlarm did this and that's why I changed. I'm not sure this is any better. How do I find out the cause and solution to this problem? Help!!!

Pete- Thanks for responding so quickly. I have IE 7.0 installed in January 2007.

The first possibility is that an Add-on in IE is causing the problem ....

Tools > Manage Add-ons > Enable or Disable Add-ons. Disable all Add-ons - if this resolves the problem enable them one by one until the culprit is found.

If the problem remains after all add-on are disabled you may enable them again.

Do you have the Yahoo toolbar installed? - this has caused problems in the past.

If you are reasonably sure that TrendMicro is the root cause disable it briefly and see if the problem goes away.

Near midnight here - will check back tomorrow.
