    Hello,
Thanks for looking in. I'm trying to help a buddy who is having an tech issue I have not seen before and beyond my meager abilities. I'm hoping someone else may have seen this one before.

Here's the problem: When he goes to open a URL that is stored in one of his favorites folders, the browser locks up. (He is running IE6). This only happens when he goes through a favorite folder to get to the URL. When he uses one of the URLs that is not in a favorite folder, but just along the "root" favorites list, he has no problem. If he pulls a favorite out of the folder and then puts it on the main favorites list - no problem. But again, any of the URLs within the favorites folder, lock up when he tries to access them.

The only thing that he has changed on his computer since this issue began was to upgrade to a more recent version of Dragon Works Naturally Speaking (version 7.0, from 6.0). (My buddy is a parapelegic and only has minimal use of one hand so getting rid of this program is not a solution).

Any ideas on what is going on or what the solution might be?

    Thanks,
    Ken

You could try repairing IE via the control pane, add/remove programs, highlight IE, click on add/remove, and should get the option of repair. If he is running XP, I believe it a different procedure. Someone else will chime in if so.

To repair IE 6 when Repair is not available in Add/Remove Programs list (which it usually isn't in XP), do a search of the harddrive for "ie.inf." When found, RIGHT click on it and choose Install.

    • 'Control Panel' > 'Add or Remove Programs' > 'Add/Remove Windows Components' on left-hand side > 'Internet Explorer'
