Have you tried starting IE8 with no add-ons loaded after the computer has been running for quite some time? Does IE8 start up quickly when you start it with no add-ons?

To start IE8 with no addons click Start< All Programs< Accessories< System Tools< Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).

You can try cleaning up a few things if you like

Download and Run: Try that :)

You could have a lot of temporary internet files on your system. Follow what kimsland posted and see if it has made any difference.

Also since are running Vista do you have Windows Vista Service Pack 2 installed?

Your Sony Vaio should come with a Restore partition which you press a certain key shown when your computer starts up.

Since you may be doing a clean install, can you first supply a HijackThis log
    Download it from HERE
Then "Do a system scan and save a logfile "
Then copy and paste the entire log to a new reply

There may be hope yet ;)

Yes I agree. You could have some program running in the background thats conflicting with IE8.

deancf I apologize for asking you to post logs, I now see that this is not allowed.
Actually I have since agreed with Admin's decision on this too, even though I have to, I do like to agree with things I must adhere by :D

Anyway, can you try another option:
    Safe Mode with Networking
Accessed by pressing the F8 key at startup

Does that also cause IE to slow?

Note this was done in PM (allowed once off support reply)
The Mywebsearch startup entries were fixed (removed)
Then after restart the Mywebsearch was uninstalled from Add/Remove programs

    Thanks for the update :)
