IE: intermittent, shortened page-, image-loading timeouts

Why is it that sometimes, in IE, when I try to load a page, it will not even try to download it and will instead immediately give me a "The page cannot be displayed" error? When I click Reload, it will then load the page just fine, usually.

Also, why is it that sometimes, also in IE, the same thing occurs but just with images on a web page?

I currently have IE 6, but the page-loading thing in particular has occurred in previous versions of IE. The image-loading thing is new (for me) to IE 6...
