IE has encountered a problem and needs to close

Microsoft Error msg pop up still happening:

When searching on certain pages on the Internet, the Microsoft Internet Explorer Error Signature message still pops up and it says:

Miscrosoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.

It shows:
Mod Name: dxtrans.dll

You cannot do anything more on your search, except click
Send Error Report or Dont Send on the Error pop up.

HELP!

crystalwoman--Just to add to what brett has asked, when you get this message (which is telling you that IE has a problem), and click the "Send Error Report ", at the end of that there is a button, I think labelled "Details" which allows you to learn what the problem is. It may help get a solution if you to post that info here.

 

I've been fighting a similar problem for weeks now. I am running Windows 2000 and I get the "Micrososft Internet Explorer has encountered a prolem..." pop-up but my error involves a different DLL:

AppName: iexplore.exe
AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106
ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.0.2195.6685
Offset: 00012373

This pop-up comes up every time I try to launch Internet Explorer. I clicked "send report" a few times and have since started clicking "don't send ". The pop-up keeps coming back until I uncheck the "Restart MSIE" box.

I can get to web pages from within Windows Explorer and FrontPage but MSIE has stopped working.

I've tried cleaning the registry, no luck.
I've run anti-virus, spy-bot, ad-aware, etc. but can't get MSIE back.

I have a "full version" of IE6 on disk but when it runs, it doesn't seem to overwrite the files. It acts like it's skipping the files on the hard drive that are newer.

Any ideas?

 

I tried disabling error reporting in Windows 2000 using a method posted in another thread (I can't remember which one) hoping that it was just a nuisance pop-up but lo-and-behold, it wasn't. Now I get an application error:

IEXPLORE.EXE - Application Error

The instruction at "0x77f92373" referenced memory at "0xa4937812 ". The memory could not be "written ".

Click OK to terminate the program
Click CANCEL to debug the program

So the error is real, now how do I fix it?

 

trouble--ntdll.dll is a Windows file and should be on your Windows CD (or, if Windows was installed when you got the PC, in C:\Windows\Options\Cabs). You therefore could try extracting a fresh copy from there.

P.S. As you have learned, disabling the IE Error Reporting does not make the error go away. It is only a tool to help you diagnose the problem.
There is a third party program, Bugtoaster that might help your diagnosis if restoring the file does not help.
