My relative has a dell laptop (only a few months old, running WinXP Pro) and whenever we go to certain web sites the whole systems freezes and must be reset (won't even respond to CTRL+ALT+DEL). The same sites load fine on his desktop system (also running WinXP Pro) and they load on the laptop under Netscape. The one site uses the Flash plugin which I've removed and reinstalled with no sucess. I've searched Microsoft's support articles and everything seems to deal with freezing in general. We only have this problem on certain web sites.....

If you haven't downloaded and installed Microsoft's latest version of Virtual Machine (java), try that.

Just go to Microsoft's site and do a search for "virtual machine. "

It could be the result of poorly written plugins in IE, installed by sites or third party software. I had a problem in IE 5.5 where the browser would freeze each time a new window is opened. Turned out to be the above problem, with one solution being: http://download.com.com/3000-2353-5930345.html
