IE Favorites Menu corrupted?

All of a sudden my IE Favorites menu is I guess corrupt. When I click on favorites some of my folders that have been there forever are now gone, even the main folder "Favorites" is missing. However when I go to add to my favorites menu, the sub-folder that is now visible when I click on Favorites shows up in the save to box, but still not visible from the favorites menu.

A favorites folder should be the 1st folder listed when you click on favorites, the rest are sub-folders, I'm not sure how many sub-folders are missing (not displaying) just noticed the one I was trying to use was no longer there, so tried to recreate it and it tells me there is already a folder with that name and tried to save to that sub folder and it says already a folder with that name, but yet it's not visible in the favorites list and as I said the main Favorites folder is not ther either.

What happened??? This just happened in the last day or so. How do I fix it?

Have a look in the Favorites folder at Computer\Users\[user name]\Favorites.

How do the structure and contents look?

If it appears to be OK, copy and paste all the items elsewhere so you have something to fall back on. Now delete all the entries in the Favorites folder and bring back the copy you just made.
