That sounds like she can reach at least one site, and that is the part that puzzles me.
    But
    1) The error message is telling you IE has a problem, but we do not know what the problem is.
    2) The error reporting window gives you the option to "click here" or "Details ". Click and tell us what the actual error/problem is. (copy and paste the info)

Have you scanned the PC for Viruses or Spyware?
If you do not find any, you could also try the Internet Explorer Repair Tool. You have not told us what versions of IE and Windows you are using. My Win98PC has this tool at Start|Programs|Accessories|System Tools|System Information|Tools|click Internet Explorer Repair Tool|Wait. Reboot. WindowsXP has it elsewhere
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;318378
Also tell us if any new hardware/software has been installed lately.

im sorry jim i forgot to say.

she has win 98 and IE 6.0
the error message that she gets is like a mile long.

every exployer window that she opens does this on every site. i sent her the links that you gave and i will post back as soon as she get the results.

what i was talking about was after she gets the error message it sends her back to the default homepage.

i hope this helps you a bit.

    Hi Kane
"the error message that she gets is like a mile long "

Please post it, mile long and all, may be able to copy paste.

Its normal after sending a repost for IE to restart at whatever home page is set to,
When I had IE 6 with no SP1 if I sent a report it would do that
and hang sometimes .If i didnt send a report after it (IE) restarted
all was well,, the last time that happend everything worked as it should.

    SpyBot and Adaware time

Make sure that your niece is running antivirus and firewall on her PC. By parasite do you mean virus or spyware?

    Recommended:

    Antivirus - AVG - freeware

    Firewall - Kerio - freeware

In addition to Spybot she should also run AdAware

Update both program's reference files - run Spybot first then AdAware.

kane--This site will tell you a lot about "parasites ", many of which are "spyware ".
    http://doxdesk.com/parasite/
It will also run a scan if ActiveX is enabled. But I, and I expect others, would be interested to learn how your niece "saw" the spyware and just what the spyware was (like the name). It is somewhat surprising SpybotS&D did not find it.
