Maddening Bug on Dell laptop Latitude CPi with W98SE

    Ramona and others:

This describes my problem in more detail.

Often (but not all the time), when I am connected to the internet, whether using Netscape 7.2 or IE5, I am repeatedly interrupted by a sequence of two error screens:

Screen 1: Titled: Microsoft Internet Explorer

“Microwave Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to be closed. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Please tell Microsoft about this problem.
We have created an error report that you can send to help us improve Microsoft IE. "¦â€¦â€¦ "

The screen offers two options (and no other way to close it):
 Option 1: Send Error Report
     Option 2: Don’t Send.

When I check Option 1 a report is sent (apparently) "¦. but I get no response to it.
    When I check Option 2, I get Screen 2:

    Screen 2: Titled lexplore
"This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut downâ€
And a box is provided labeled CLOSE.

If I click a Details box, I see that "lexplore caused an invalid page ? in module "kernel 32.DLL at a7f.bff 7a128." I also see a lot of detailed register info.

Even with these popup screens, I can read web pages Ok but I have to <repeatedly> hit the Don’t Send and the Close buttons to see my work. Maddening.

Quite often, when I get tired of these screen interruptions I hit the OFF button and restart; and find that the system works well, without these "IE has encountered a problem "¦" screens. But I never can tell when they will resume.

I assume the problem is with my copy of Windows98SE. What do you think? What is "lexplore? "

I am thinking of removing IE completely and then reloading it (or doing without it)? Comments?

Can someone please help me find and fix the error? "¦wdc

    wdc,

I'm going to split this thread and move your Internet Explorer problem (Iexplorer) to that Forum.

I would suggest that you first do a search in the Internet Explorer Forum for a kernel32.dll error. I think you will find numerous threads on this error... If not then experts on the Forum will help you determine what could be causing this error.

This is the executable file for Internet Explorer - iexplore.exe.
Try a Repair of IE ....

Add/Remove Programs > Internet Explorer > Remove and select the repair option.

This may be relevant if you have McAfee ....

Error Message "Iexplore Caused an Invalid Page Fault in Module Kernel32.dll" When You Close an Internet Explorer Window

If you have not already done so run an online virus scan - see Quicklinks in my signature and download and run Ad-Aware SE and Spybot, update both immediately and run, deleting all they find. In Spybot use the Immunize buttons to provide a degree of permanent protection against adware/malware. For more permanent protection download SpywareBlaster 3.3, update and apply all protection

This is an update on the "MIE has encountered a prolem and needs ...." error message that was plaguing me.

FWW .. these odd pop-ups still occur and i have never have found out why. But I have learned to live with them. I just move the message to a corner of the screen and ignore them. They don't appear to inhibit performance.

And I stay away from using IE.

I thank you all for the handholding support you offered. ....wdc

You're welcome, but we don't like unfinished business around here :)
