What firewall are you using if any and is it set to allow IE6 or 7 access to the Internet?

    ron2490 - Welcome to the Board :)

If it is not a firewall problem as Wiskeyman suggests try running WinsockFix, available here

Do have either of the browsers as default? On my system in IE - IE should check if it is the default browser is unchecked and in Firefox - Firefox should .... is unchecked.

This is clearly an IE problem - I suggest you run System File Checker.
